Documentary on Gorbachev to open Leipzig film festival

Documentary Meeting Gorbachev depicting the life of Mikhail Gorbachev, the eighth and final President of the Soviet Union, to be presented in Germany on October, 29 at the festival's opening, RIA Novosti reports. 

Documentary directors — German film director Werner Herzog and UK documentary filmmaker Andre Singer have questioned Mikhail Gorbachev about USSR during his power, Perestroika, leaving big politics, external USSR politics. The documentary contains these interviews. The premier of Meeting Gorbachev took place at the International film festival in Toronto in September. It hasn't been shown in Russian cinemas yet. 


Mikhail Gorbachev is one of the most famous living Russians in the world. He was the last General Secretary of the Soviet Union. Gorbachev's name has appeared lately in press due to the US intention to withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) signed by leaders of USSR and US M. Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan in 1987.
