New film about events in Ukraine to be shown at festival in Taormina

A new documentary dedicated to the events in Ukraine will be shown at the film festival in Taormina, Sicily, Zvezda TV channel reports. It will be presented by the famous director from the United States, Oliver Stone. 

According to the director, the Discovering Ukraine film was shot by Ukrainian Igor Lopatenko, who is an American citizen today. The film tells about what happened in the country in 2014, it presents an analysis of the origins of the armed conflict in the Donbass.

The film will also feature Stone. The film included an interview of its character with Viktor Medvedchuk, one of the leaders of the Ukrainian political party Opposition Platform - For Life. 

Discovering Ukraine is a continuation of Ukraine on Fire film. As Russkiy Mir reported, the film is dedicated to the history of Ukraine and describes the events that took place in the country from 1941 to 2014. Its creators decided to give special attention to the nationalist movements that emerged during the Second World War, when members of these organizations, together with the Nazi invaders, took an active part in the massacres of representatives of the Jewish and Polish population. In addition, the film highlights the role of Ukrainian nationalists in the events of recent years. 

Oliver Stone was one of the producers of the Ukraine on Fire. In 2016, the film won the main award at the Taormina Film Festival.
