Tula native wins Russian Draughts World Cup in Georgia

Alexander Getmansky from Tula won the Russian Draughts World Cup Championship, Tula Press reports. The tournament was held in Georgia, where Alexander Getmansky won first place in the rapid checkers program. He also took silver in the blitz program in the Brazilian version of checkers on a 64-cell board.

Alexander’s younger brother Gregory is following the older brother he finished fifth in both programs.

Alexander Getmansky was born in Tula. The international grandmaster won twice world championships and once a European one as part of the Russian team. Three times he became the best at the stages of the The Draughts World Championship among men.
