German Minister for Economic Affairs Peter Altmaier called Russia a Germany’s reliable partner, which fulfilled all its obligations in terms of gas delivering for more than 50 years.  It is not that easy to frighten Germany, Altmaier stated in his speech at the energy conference in response to a journalist’s question about the attempts of the USA to influence the decision of German companies to participate in Nord Stream 2 gas project, RIA Novosti informed.

Media has published the information that the United States Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell sent several German companies letters with the implicit threat of sanctions, which would be imposed in case these companies participated in Nord Stream 2 building. This news put the world community, primarily Germany, into a flutter. Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel has previously expressed her support to the project due to the new opportunities that it brings to the energy industry in Germany and the whole Europe. Merkel stated that Berlin considered this project as a commercial one.

Russkiy Mir reported that according to the survey, which took place in Germany this month, 73% residents supported the building of Nord Stream 2. Vyacheslav Nikonov, the Chairman of the Education Committee of State Duma, Board Chairman of Russkiy Mir Foundation, said that collaboration with Russia in the field of energy is a matter of national sovereignty for Germany.
