Germany says US has fear of Moscow and Berlin cooperation

13.08.2018

The United States is afraid of the unification of Russian resources with German technology, says the leader of Germany's Left Party, Bundestag deputy Sahra Wagenknecht, in an interview with the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine.

"The US pursues its own interests and with the advent of Trump it resorted to aggressive ways, its interests contradict the European ones on the most important issues - not only economic ones. By the wars for resources, the United States has destabilized the Middle East and continues to do so in Iran. At the same time Europe pays for it first. We should not obey the policy that contradicts our interests," the MP says.

According to the politician bad relations with Russia harm the European Union which on the contrary should've developed fruitful cooperation with Moscow. "The United States has always been afraid of Russian resources being united with German technology and rightly so," Mrs. Wagenkneht concluded.

Relations between Moscow and Europe deteriorated after a coup in Ukraine and subsequent events including the reunification of Crimea with Russia after the referendum. Western states accused Russia of interfering into Ukraine's affairs and imposed sanctions. Moscow took retaliatory measures, repeatedly rejected accusations and stated that it was counterproductive to talk with it in the language of sanctions.
