Russian Foreign Ministry demands Ukraine to release Kirill Vyshinsky

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has voiced regrets that Kiev does not heed the call by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Desir to release journalist Kirill Vyshinsky on November 4 (Unity Day in Russia), TASS reports.

MFA spokeswoman Maria Zakharova explains that Ukraine refused to follow this request. Unfortunately, Kirill Vyshinsky will remain in custody, she says.

The MFA appeals to Kiev and the international community on November 2, the eve of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, she adds. Moscow continues to demand a soon release of the Chief Editor of the RIA Novosti Ukraine news agency Kirill Vyshinsky who has been in custody for almost six months.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called discrimination the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Pavel Klimkin's appeal to Ukrainians to refuse Russian passports. This is a clear Ukraine residents' rights breach, citizenship discrimination, Maria Zakharova claims. Earlier, the Ukrainian minister announced the ban for Ukrainians to have Russian citizenship as a second one.

It is surprising that the Ukrainian Ministry may undertake discriminatory statements which vividly demonstrate the level of legal consciousness of the Ukrainian authorities, the Russian MFA maintains.

According to Klimkin, Russian passport holders need to hand them in. Meanwhile, they have nothing against holders of other passports.
