Russia called 2-month arrest of Kirill Vyshinsky outrageous

Kherson court made a decision to arrest the Editor-in-chief of RIA Novosti – Ukraine. The journalist with the Russian citizenship was refused an opportunity to pay bail. Therefore, he is to spend two months in prison, RIA Novosti reports. 

Ukrainian authorities blame Kirill Vyshinsky for the state treason. He might spend 15 years in prison. 

Russian Foreign Ministry demanded Kiev to set the editor-in-chief free. Russia is sharply criticizing the repressive actions in relation to the journalist who is honestly and diligently executing his professional duties, the statement says.

Russian Foreign Ministry called this arrest outrageous and violation of freedom of speech as well as attempts of the Ukrainian authorities to get rid of those who are unbiased to broadcast the state of affairs in the country. Russian diplomats called the Western countries to pay attention to the outrageous events happening at Ukraine and the fight it leads against dissidents. Russian Foreign Ministry has expressed hope that the international organizations obliged to protect rights of journalists and common people will not stay indifferent to the fate of Kirill Vyshinsky.

There will be a strike organized near the Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow in support of the journalist today. The campaign participants will protest against illegal arrests and searches of the mass media representatives in Ukraine.
