The State Duma of the Russian Federation demanded the Ukrainian authorities to set Kirill Vyshinsky free. The corresponding claim was approved by the deputies today, RIA NOVOSTI informs.

According to the representatives of the Lower Chamber of the Russian Parliament, the measures taken towards the journalists are applied, as a rule, to dangerous criminals. The State Duma has underlined that such methods contradict values of the European Union including freedom of speech being a central part of such values.

“Using tough actions against the journalists honestly doing their job, the measures which are usually taken towards dangerous criminals, contradict basic European values and freedom of expression and freedom of speech being an inevitable part of such values stipulated by the Constitution on protection of human rights and basic freedoms and other international legal duties,” the statement reads.

As the Russkiy Mir Foundation reported earlier, the Head of RIA Novosti Ukraine Kirill Vyshinsky was rudely arrested in the yard of his own house. He is accused of the state treason and support of the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass and might spend 15 years in prison.

Besides, the Ukrainian Security Service’s officers searched the agency’s office and houses of some agency’s employees for hours. 47 people were called for questioning.

Moscow has sharply denounced these actions promising to retaliate. The OSCE representative has also criticized the Ukrainian authorities and their actions towards the foreign mass media sources.
