Kursk gathers finances for restoring military cemetery in Krakow

18.06.2018

Polish society of Kursk announced fund raising for repairing of an old military cemetery in Krakow. The Soviet Soldiers who died liberating the city from the Fascist invaders are buried there, as per the Facebook account of this public organization.

According to Jerzy Tyc heading Kursk society, now they are getting a permission of the state authorities for renovation works. He has explained that to raise necessary amount of money would take at least 2 months.

Despite the territory of the cemetery is not so large, it requires a lot of money. All the graves should be renovated together with the monument, which is situated there. A fence and a path leading to the cemetery need to be reinforced.

All supporters of the organization would be invited to the gala opening ceremony after the completion of the restoration works scheduled for November 2.

The cemetery is located in the south-west of Krakow in Skotniki region. 150 Red Army soldiers who died as prisoners at war are buried here.

An obelisk set at the cemetery became dilapidated much time ago. The inscription on it can be hardly discerned. The concrete slabs of 8 mass graves are out of shape and the graves are covered with grass all over.
