Russian compatriots living in Switzerland and France, on the eve of Russia Day, laid flowers in Andermatt at the monument to the companions of the legendary Russian commander Alexander Suvorov, who died in battles with the French army. As part of the event, which took place on June, 11, the participants also sang the Russian anthem, TASS reports. The Suvorov March and Farewell of the Slav were also performed at the ceremony.

More than 40 Russians, who arrived from various cities in Switzerland and France, joined the memorial campaign. Many came to the monument with children.

The audience chanted "Happy Russia Day!" against the backdrop of a huge tricolor unfurled by bikers from the Night Wolves club. Speakers noted the importance of consolidating Russian-speaking organizations in Switzerland.

The head of the Swiss branch of the club, Rolf Shefler, noted that the organization takes care of and monitors the monument. Before last year's Russia Day, the monument was attacked by vandals, but compatriots raised money to restore it.

According to Shefler, the bikers intend to repair the monument and install electrical equipment. According to the Swiss, without Alexander Suvorov and the Russian army, the Swiss history could have been different. Modern residents of the country remember this and consider the commander a hero.
