The memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War was honored in London, TASS reports. Russian diplomats and compatriots took part in the memorial ceremony. They brought flowers to the Soviet war memorial, which is located near the Imperial War Museum.

The event was timed to coincide with the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, which is celebrated on Thursday, June, 22. This year marks 82 years since the start of the bloodiest war in history.

The embassy noted that no authorisation from the city authorities was required. Other compatriots come to the monument in the same way. Many of them consider it important to pay tribute to the memory of their grandfathers and great-grandfathers, who saved not only their homeland, but all the peoples of Europe from nazism.

Memorial events that day also took place in Italy, France, Germany and other countries.
