Russian Embassy: London violates rights of Russian journalists and interferes with work of British media

The British authorities are blatantly violating the rights of Russian journalists, the Russian embassy in Great Britain states. According to the representative of the diplomatic mission, they face not only problems in their professional activities, but even in the day-to-day life, RIA Novosti reports.

One of the employees of Russian media and his family have been living for more than a year without documents. Their passports are not given away by the migration service under the pretext of waiting for a decision on the extension of a visa.

The most senior government officials allow themselves to call journalists from Russia propagandists and spies, and the allegedly independent Ofcom regulator, with the approval of the authorities, constantly puts pressure on RT.

A Russian diplomat recalled that British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt blamed the TV channel for lying. The head of the Foreign Office constantly repeats that London wants to fight for media freedom around the world. At the same time, he avoids the topic of freedom of speech in the UK. The issue is very acute right now, after the arrest of Julian Assange.

Even the local media in the United Kingdom are not allowed to demand that the government answer some uncomfortable questions. Including the fact that no one managed to talk to Sergey Skripal and his daughter, the recordings from the video camera installed on his house remain classified.

The admission of journalists to the investigation is controlled by the special services, where, in the opinion of the Russian diplomatic mission, they come up with “leaks”, which often contradict one another and have often been false.

British reporters are not allowed to other high-profile cases. They include an investigation into the murder of Nikolai Glushkov, and the activities of the White Helmets"in Syria.
