Vladimir Putin opens the Crimean Bridge

Putin drove Kamaz truck that was heading from Kuban to open the highway from mainland to the Crimean Peninsula. The head of SNM-Most Alexander Ostrovsky went with him, TASS reports. Construction equipment convoy was following the first truck. 35 Cranes, cisterns, dumpers and other machinery used during the bridge building took part in the procession. 

Vladimir Putin congratulated the participants of construction at the other end of the bridge, in Crimea. The bridge length is 19 km. Putin said that the first phase is probably the main one.

«I sincerely congratulate you. It is the first phase, probably the main one. I have no doubts that by the autumn you will build the railway part, and in one year the cargo part,” said the President. 

The bridge can reportedly carry up to 36 thousand cars per day. Russian specialists put into account the ecological and archeological value of the region to minimise environmental footprint.

Two-way highway to open tomorrow at 5:30 am. The maximum speed is 90 km/hour.
