American premium cable and satellite television network HBO had advised about plans to shoot miniseries on Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster, TASS reports. Jared Harris will play the role of academic Valery Legasov, the member of the Governmental Commission for Investigation of the causes of the accident at the Chernobyl plant.

The shootings will be conducted next year in Lithuania. American executive at the television network HBO Kary Antholis is absolutely positive that the documentary will be engaging not only for HBO audience but for the viewers around the world. Antholis is proud to work with screenwriter Craig Mazin, who based the documentary based on real facts of the tragedy and its consequences.

The 1986 accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, then part of the former Soviet Union, was the only disaster in the history of commercial nuclear power to cause fatalities from radiation. More than 600,000 people took part in a consequences management. Academic Valery Legasov has arrived at the accident site and spent 4 months there. He took the most crucial decisions to avoid other accidents and to evacuate the entire population of the nearby city Pripyat immediately, saving many lives and mitigating the impact of the catastrophe.
