The Day of Remembrance of Russian soldiers perished in World War I was marked on August 1, Rossotrudnichestvo reports. Russian House in Berlin representatives laid flowers at the monument dedicated to the “Faithful Sons of Great Russia."

The oldest monument in Germany to the memory soldiers of the Russian Imperial Army is located at the Russian Orthodox Cemetery in Berlin's Tegel district. It was opened in 1934, following the initiative of the Russian All-Military Union on the voluntary donations of the Russian emigration in Germany. Many generals and officers, as well as ordinary soldiers, are buried here.

Director of the Russian House in Berlin Pavel Izvolsky has noted, "The heroes of the First World War should not be forgotten, especially those who are buried far away from Russia. Their tragedy is not only that the revolution and civil war have literally erased their names and deeds from history, but also that as a result of these upheavals they lost their homeland, being forced to live and die in a foreign land."
