The Russian Embassy called the actions of the management of the military cemetery in Tallinn an inglorious prank, the diplomatic mission reports on its page on the VKontakte social network. The administration destroyed the foundations and literally ''trampled into the mud'' the gravestones installed at the graves of Soviet soldiers. Dozens of memorial signs made of dolomite were restored with funds allocated by the embassy.

Diplomats strongly condemned the campaign to liquidate Soviet military memorial sites launched in the Baltic republic. They demanded to stop mocking the memory of the heroes who gave life and freedom to the current generation of Estonians.

A year ago, the Estonian authorities decided to rebury the remains of Soviet soldiers resting in 22 graves in Narva. They move burials that, in their opinion, are located in inappropriate places. They consider parks, squares, densely populated areas, and green areas to be such.

Tallinn expects to demolish all Soviet monuments in the country in 2023. New amendments to state laws may allow the dismantling of monuments included in the lists of protected cultural objects.
