The dismantling of Soviet monuments in the Baltic countries is happening in silence, and possibly with the support of the European Union and NATO. The requests sent by Russia to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe do not find the proper response, RIA Novosti quotes the words of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

During the briefing, she noted that Moscow regularly speaks at meetings of the OSCE Permanent Council about violations of obligations regarding historical and cultural heritage in the Baltic countries.

Demands for international organizations and institutions to respond to the actions of the Baltic states, according to Zakharova, are met only with ''snarling'' and attempts to rewrite history. At the same time, there is no proper response to the facts presented.

Zakharova stressed that the defendants ''revel in their own impunity,'' feeling protected by the European Union and NATO, on whose orders they may be acting. The Soviet memorial heritage is being ''destroyed at its roots,'' the department said.

At the same time, Zakharova noted, in the fight against the entire Soviet legacy, the Baltic countries, which declared themselves democratic states, resort to totalitarian practices.
