The"Russia and Greece - Pages of Joint History" exhibition began working in Athens, TASS reports. It is located in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Representatives of the ministries and departments of both countries were invited to the ceremony.

The Days of Russian Spiritual Culture in Greece began with the presentation of the exhibition. They were included in the program of the cross year of the history of Russia and Greece.

The speakers noted that this year in Greece they celebrate the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the liberation struggle, which lasted for eight years. Russia, the participants in the ceremony recalled, became the first country to recognize the independence of Greece. And this was the beginning of a long-term friendship between the peoples of the two countries. Russia also provided great support to the Greeks in the struggle for independence. The first president of the Hellenic Republic was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Empire, John Kapodistrias.

The exposition includes about 30 photographs dedicated to significant events in the joint history of Russia and Greece: the Battle of Chesme in 1770, the Battle of Navarino in 1827, the relationship of the royal house of the Romanovs with the Greek royal family.
