The anniversary of the victory in WWII was celebrated in the Syrian capital, TASS reports. On the eve of June 25, a gala concert was held in Damascus. It took place at the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office. According to its head Nikolai Sukhov, not only Russian compatriots, but also locals who study the Russian language took the stage.

Among the guests were many Syrians, including public activists, cultural figures, friends and partners of the Russian Center for Science and Culture. They performed songs of the war years, poems dedicated to the exploit and tragedy of the Soviet people.

Amateur artists also performed the legendary Blue Handkerchief waltz. And the female choir presented a medley of songs from the war years. Nikolai Sukhov noted that some participants in the concert became guests of the festive parade, which was held at the Khmeimim Russian air base. He recalled that the celebrations held in Damascus took place for the first time in several years.

The concert ended with the Immortal Regiment action, the participants of which sang the Victory Day song.
