Victory Day celebrated in African states

African countries hosted events in honor of the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War. The program memorial events, processions of the Immortal Regiment, concerts of military songs, screenings of films about the war, TASS reports.

On May 9, Botswana hosted the Immortal Regiment march, employees of the Russian embassy and compatriots took part in it. The participants talked about their relatives-front-line soldiers.

In Ghana, a concert of war years songs was held. The songs were performed by the staff of the diplomatic mission. Russian historical drama "Nuremberg" was screened during the holiday. A master class in military field kitchen was also held.

In South Africa, they organized the Immortal Regiment march with the participation of Russian compatriots. In the Seychelles, a wreath was laid at the Monument to the Fallen in the First and Second World Wars.

The procession of the Immortal Regiment in Ethiopia gathered over 100 participants. The campaign took place on the territory of the Russian embassy, many children joined it.

More than 300 people came to the celebrations in Cairo. Stands with portraits of the warring descendants of Russian compatriots living in Egypt were installed in the Russian House. Famous songs about the war were performed at the festive concert. The guests of the event were representatives of Serbia, CIS countries and Africa.

In Algeria, on May 9, Russian diplomats laid wreaths at the grave of Soviet soldier Ostapchenko, who was buried in the British military cemetery. The program of the holiday, which was attended by about 200 people, included a concert and the Immortal Regiment campaign.
