The Ukrainian president is asked to return Victory Day, RIA Novosti reports. The corresponding appeal was registered on the website of the presidential office the day before, May, 11. The authors of the petition demand to cancel Europe Day, which was established instead of celebrating Victory Day. They remind that their ancestors during the Great Patriotic War fought for Ukraine, which was part of the USSR. Therefore, according to the authors, there is no point in canceling the holiday.

In order for the head of state to consider the petition, 25,000 people must support it.

Victory Day in Ukraine was replaced by Europe Day. For almost ten years, since 2015, May 8 in Ukraine has been the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation. Until recently, Victory Day was considered a holiday, but all official celebrations were held on the eve of May, 9.

The Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov is sure that among the inhabitants of Ukraine there are many people who consider May, 9 a sacred day. Among them are veterans of the Great Patriotic War, relatives and friends of veterans.
