The Day of Remembrance and Sorrow is celebrated in Russia on Monday, June 22, according to RIA Novosti. It was timed to coincide with the start of World War II, when Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union.

According to tradition, one of the largest memorial events, the Candle of Remembrance, started on the night of June 22. It united the whole country -  candles in honor of the fallen heroes were lit at the monuments and memorials. The action was organized by members of the Victory Volunteers movement in other countries.

The Memory Line action was organized for the second time in Moscow. It was held on the Crimean embankment. In the Muzeon art park, 1,418 installations were placed according to the number of days of the war. Each of them had a platform with an inscription and a candle. Volunteers invited everyone to put a candle for the day important for their families.

Russians will become participants in a minute of silence. It will begin on June 22 at 12:15. At that moment, on June 22, 1941, an appeal was made to the inhabitants of the country and an announcement of an attack by fascist troops on the USSR.

Relatives of the dead heroes will be able to receive documents on their ancestors on June 22. Applications for the information search about the participants in the war were collected within the Fate of a Soldier project. Now there are 15,000 applications in work. On June 22, those who filed applications will receive materials about their relatives.
