A garden in memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War was planted in Ecuador, RIA Novosti reports. The planting was attended by Russian diplomats and compatriots, members of the Victory Volunteers movement, graduates of Soviet and Russian universities, and local officials.

The head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Ecuador, Vladimir Sprinchan, said that ten young lemon trees were planted in the capital's Middle of the World park. The event was timed to coincide with the 78th anniversary of the Great Victory.

The Middle of the World park is laid out around a monument erected on a line where the northern and southern hemispheres supposedly converge. 200 meters from the monument is the equator line. This place is a point of attraction for many tourists.

The Memory Garden campaign was held in Ecuador for the second time.
