US authorities refuse to assist in the search for Russian schoolchildren who remain in the States, TASS reports. According to the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, the State Department has not provided a list and addresses of children who came to the United States to participate in various educational and awareness programs. Now, due to the development of coronavirus infection, children are stuck abroad and cannot return home.

The Foreign Ministry has found out that about 80 people remain in the United States. Despite the fact that two weeks have already passed, the American authorities did not consider it necessary to provide either a list of young Russians or their addresses.

To date, Russian diplomats have managed to find out the names of 42 people. Eight of them have already returned to their homeland. The rest are scattered throughout American territory, many of them wish to get home as quickly as possible.

Russkiy Mir reported that the children arrived to the United States last autumn, while the Russian foreign ministry was not informed about this. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reminded that American educational programs for children are not protected by any agreements in the field of international law since there are no relevant documents signed between Russia and US.

The Russian Foreign Ministry will draw appropriate conclusions, Maria Zakharova promised. She stressed that Washington does not respond to requests from the Russian embassy, and diplomats have to deal with this issue on their own.
