Russian embassies and consulates may be involved in monitoring the state of monuments to Soviet soldiers and the burial places of fallen soldiers abroad. According to the Assistant to the President of Russia, Chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society Vladimir Medinsky, the Presidential Administration supported this initiative, TASS reports.
Medinsky turned to the Foreign Ministry with a proposal to include Russian diplomats in the work. According to the head of the society, the Presidential Administration prepared a corresponding order. Medinsky believes that the results of the work will make it possible to find out how many monuments, burials and other objects related to history are located outside of Russia and in what condition they are.
The head of the society said that the users of the memory.rf had marked twelve thousand memorable places in Russia and other countries. The webiste allows for public monitoring of the condition of the monuments, as well as collecting volunteers for work on the improvement of monuments and burials.
Vladimir Medinsky also called on the heads of Russian regions to take an active part in monitoring the state of the monuments to Soviet soldiers.
