The ideology of historical revisionism and falsification of history, which is carried out by the authorities of some European countries, has turned into a source of inspiration for extremist groups organizing attacks on monuments to fighters against fascism. This was stated by the representative of the Russian delegation Kristina Sukacheva during a speech at a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC). It took place on Tuesday, June 16, in Geneva, TASS reports.

The war, which is waged against monuments to Soviet soldiers-liberators, and the glorification of Nazi criminals and their minions are especially noticeable in the Baltic republics, Poland and the Czech Republic, the expert noted. Monuments in honor of soldiers who died for freedom are destroyed, military cemeteries are desecrated in these countries. Moreover, some states are encouraging these outrageous tricks.

The Russian diplomat recalled that World War II ended 75 years ago, but even today the issue of racism has not left the agenda. Its modern form, neo-Nazism, is also blooming. Its followers are actively drawing young people into their activities.

In Ukraine, aggressive nationalism has already turned into a state ideology, the representative of Russia stated. And incitement of hostility on ethnic grounds has become the norm in this country.

The diplomat called on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet and the HRC specialized special procedures “to pay maximum attention to the theme of the growth of xenophobia and intolerance in the world.”
