Year of memory and glory starts in Russia

The year of memory and glory begins in Russia, TASS reports. The corresponding decree was signed by Russian president Vladimir Putin six months ago. The explanatory note states that it is held to preserve historical memory and is dedicated to the anniversary of the victory in Great Patriotic war. 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of this date. 

The document includes 116 events. Among them are a military parade on Red Square, a gala reception on behalf of the head of state, a concert on Red Square and a May 9 fireworks.

All veterans will be awarded a jubilee medal. As of November 1, 2019, 60 842 participants of the Great Patriotic War and more than a million people and their families who received this status live in Russia. 

The All-Russian project Without Statute of Limitations is one of the most ambitious. It is designed to preserve the memory of the tragedy of the civilian population of the Soviet Union, which suffered from the crimes of the Nazis and their minions.

Exploration works are planned at the places of death of civilians. They will be held in 12 regions, and the results will be transmitted to the investigating authorities. Documents and eyewitness accounts of the crimes of the Nazi army and its allies in the occupied territories will be published and introduced for scientific use. The project will hold forums of young historians and search engines.

Earlier it became known that a monument to Soviet soldiers who died in battles for Rzhev would be unveiled at the village of Khoroshevo, Rzhevsky District. The twenty-meter monument will be partly funded by the public, the crowdfunding was announced at the end of 2018. The opening ceremony is scheduled for May 9, 2020, to the 75th anniversary of the victory. The initiative to erect the monument came from the public. it was supported by Vladimir Putin.

The opening of the main church of the Russian Armed Forces in the Patriot Park near will also become one of the central events of the year. It is built on donations; today, about three billion rubles have already been collected.
