The active development of contacts between Russia and Germany at the highest level and at the level of foreign ministries is a clear evidence of the relevance of the dialogue between Moscow and Berlin in the political sphere. This was stated by Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov after negotiations with his German counterpart Heiko Maas. Their meeting took place on August 21 in Moscow, the website of the Russian Foreign ministry reports. The leaders of both countries are determined to continue building up cooperation in all areas, including economy, science, education and culture.

According to Lavrov, the development of humanitarian contacts between the regions and universities of two countries and friendly ties really contribute to the Year of Scientific and Educational Partnerships which takes place in Russia and Germany. The heads of departments agreed that the programs of this kind had to be carried on in the future.

Lavrov also noted that German business is not inclined to stop its activities in Russia. This is also proved by the recent St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, where German businessmen were quite numerous.

The foreign ministers raised urgent international issues, including relations of Russia and the European Union. The situation in Ukraine also remained one of the central topics. Lavrov once again noted that there was no alternative to the full implementation of the Minsk agreements.

The situation with the Russian media was also mentioned during the talks. The minister noted that the journalists of the RT channel and Sputnik news agency were forced to work in France without access to official events. He also recalled that some German banks announced their intention to stop working with RT structures without explanation.

Lavrov reminded that the authorities were obliged to provide unhindered access to information to their citizens. What is happening in relation to RT and Sputnik is a violation of these obligations. He stressed that the Russian authorities did not restrict the activities of foreign media.
