Russia is ready to strengthen solidarity with Cuba, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated. He said this during his speech after a meeting with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, which took place in Havana, the website of Russian Foreign Ministry reports.

According to Sergey Lavrov, joint celebrations are planned in honor of two anniversaries  next year. Russia and Cuba will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Victory and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations. Head of Russian diplomacy expressed confidence that the celebration program would be very interesting and would bring pleasure to the residents of both countries.

After three months, another anniversary is expected. Cuban capital turns 500 this autumn. The Days of St. Petersburg held in Havana will coincide with this solid date. And before that, Head of the Russian Government Dmitry Medvedev is going to visit Cuba.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to Cuban friends for their traditional support of Russian initiatives at international platforms, including the UN. Sergey Lavrov called the coordination of the two countries "exemplary".

The statements that are heard from Washington about the fact that countries from the Eastern Hemisphere cannot have partners in the West are unsustainable. Head of Russian diplomacy advised to carefully examine the map to see where the American or British military bases are located. Sergey Lavrov is sure that in this respect there is not even a subject for serious discussion.

The politician recalled that Russia has always sought to strengthen and develop relations in all areas with Latin American countries and with the states of the Caribbean. And these relations are always based on equal rights of both parties, mutual benefit and mutual respect.

Moscow has always defended and will continue to uphold the right of the Cuban people to choose their own destiny and future, to determine the path of development of their country, as well as the right of any other people. Russia categorically rejects attempts to impose its own orders and values on anyone, which do not always reflect the values of other civilizations and peoples, Sergey Lavrov summed up.
