The Ukrainian issue cannot be considered separately from the geopolitical context, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov believes. He said this the day before, on April, 24, during a speech at a meeting of the UN Security Council, RIA Novosti reports.

Moscow, as part of the special military operation, plans to eliminate the threat to national security that NATO has been nurturing right on the Russian borders for years, the minister said. The goal of the special military operation is to defend the rights of people, to prevent the Kiev regime from expelling them from their ancestral lands or even to exterminate them. Lavrov recalled that Kyiv had repeatedly publicly declared its intentions.

Today, the minister is sure, once again, as in the years of the Cold War, the world has come close to a dangerous threshold. The situation is complicated by the loss of faith in multilateralism, when the aggression of the collective West in the financial and economic sphere destroys all the achievements of globalization. In addition, Washington and its allies do not want to follow the diplomatic path, trying to sort things out "on the battlefield," the minister explained. And this is happening within the walls of the UN, which was created precisely in order to prevent the horrors of war.

The voices of sane forces calling for wisdom and a return to dialogue are not heard because of the cries of those who seek to undermine the fundamental principles of interstate communication, the Russian diplomat specified.
