The monument to the Russian pilot and aircraft designer, the hero of the First World War, Victor Dybovsky has been established in London. The monument was opened at the cemetery of St. Pancras and Islington, where an outstanding pilot and inventor was buried. The pilot did a lot for the security of Russia and Great Britain, Russian Heritage in the United Kingdom Society reported on its Facebook page.

The ceremony opened with a memorial service held by an Orthodox priest of the Sourozh diocese. The event was attended by Russian diplomats, representatives of public organizations and the Russian diaspora. The famous British public figure, Viscount John Maitland, was also present.

It was noted that the installation of the monument and other activities that return forgotten names of heroes to descendants became possible thanks to the joint efforts of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Embassy in the UK, public organizations and foundations.

Dybovsky is considered the pioneer of Russian naval aviation. In 1911, he was the first to discover a submarine from the aircraft, and also the first to establish radio communication with the aircraft. He entered the history of aviation thanks to the flight from Odessa to St. Petersburg, which took a little more than a day and became a record for its time.

During the First World War, he showed true heroism as a member of the squadron and was awarded orders and medals. In 1916, Dybovskoy headed the Russian naval aviation under the Entente in London. After the October Revolution, he decided not to return to his homeland. The life of the aviation pioneer in London was not easy, he died in 1953 and was buried in a common grave. The burial was discovered by Russian researchers in 2011.
