Letters of appreciation from the Russian Ambassador to the UK Alexander Yakovenko were received by the organizers of the International Cossack Shermitzia Games, which take place in the Rostov region with the participation of Scottish athletes. Authors of the project were awarded for their contribution to the development of humanitarian cooperation and bilateral relations between Russia and the UK, Delovoe Soobschestvo reports.

Don Cossacks and Scots have been working together for almost three years, implementing projects with the support of the Russian Consulate in Edinburgh, the municipal authorities of Rostov-on-Don and Azov. The joint projects were organized by the Association of Scots and Don Cossacks from Glasgow and the Kumzha ethnic complex. The Russians have repeatedly won the main awards and prizes of the Highland Games in Glasgow, and participants from Scotland won victories in Cossack games.

Participants also carry out public diplomacy in the cities where competitions take place; they hold meetings with politicians, officials, public figures, young people, hold lectures and training workshops on crafts. The next Cossack Games will be held in the Rostov region in early May.

Russkiy Mir reported last year's Games, which were held for the 14th time. The event included demonstration equestrian performances, sabre fencing, a fair and round tables.
