Monument to Alexander II restored In Bulgaria

The authorities of the Bulgarian city of Svishtov have restored a monument erected in honor of the Russian Emperor Alexander the Second, Russian Bulgaria website reports.

This settlement was the first to be liberated by the Russian army during the Russian-Turkish war in 1877-1878. Russia's victory led to the liberation of the country from the Ottoman Empire lasted four five centuries. This year the 140th anniversary of this date was widely celebrated.

There is also a fundraising for a mill repair. There the exposition entitled Formation of Russian Forces was located. The Aleko Konstantinov International Fund initiated of the charity action.

According to the museum head Tsvetana Shekerova, this mill served as the last defensive line for Turkish troops.

An earthquake that happened in the 1970s destroyed the building. Now only a stonewall reminds about it.
