The monument to the Red Army soldiers is being dismantled in Narva, the Sputnik Near Abroad telegram channel reports. It was installed in the Dark Garden in honor of the soldiers who died in 1918.

Authorities said there are no burials under the monument. However, the inscription on it states that soldiers of the Viljandi Communist Regiment and other units of the Red Army are buried there.

Local authorities added that journalists were asked to leave the area surrounding the monument.

Earlier, the Estonian authorities seized a land plot from Narva, where the legendary T-34 tank had previously been installed. Now the land belongs to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. They plan to set up a drone monitoring the site.

For many months after the demolition of the monument, the residents of Narva did not forget about the feat of the liberators. Flowers and candles were brought there. Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova noted that the barbaric dismantling of the monument to Soviet soldiers-liberators was carried on Tallinn's initiative, despite protests from the local population and the authorities of Narva.
