Unknown people have smashed the burial of Soviet soldiers who died during the liberation of Poland from the Nazis, RIA Novosti reports. The vandals attacked the tomb in the town of Jelenia Gora in the south-west of the country.

More than 20 tombs were hurt at the cemetery, according to Jerzy Tyc, the head of the Commonwealth of Kursk which is engaged in monuments reconstruction.

A journalist from Jelenia Gora Marek Markevich called this dramatic incident a complete savagery and barbarism.

As Russkiy Mir reported, the largest number of vandalism cases to Soviet soldier's memorials is recorded in Poland. For the first half of 2018 more than 30 attacks on monuments took place there. 26 memorials were dismantled.

In May, the vandals abused the largest memorial Red Army cemetery in Warsaw where commemorative events are held. Unknown people made offensive inscriptions there. Despite the fact that video cameras were installed around the monument the police could not prevent an attack and detain the perpetrators on hot pursuit.
