According to the Mayor of the city Giuseppe Cuomo, the monument will be opened in a month on October 27. The head of the city reminded that some of the books of the Russian writer are studied in Italian schools - they are included in the literature program.

The well-known Russian sculptor Alexander Rukavishnikov is the author of the bronze sculpture. The figure of the writer faces the Capri island where Gorky spent seven years. One of the streets bears his name.

Italian Ambassador in Moscow Pasquale Terracciano said that the project highlighted the strong relationship between the two countries in the cultural sphere. He proves the universality of Gorky's works. Several generations of Sorrento residents know, understand, like Gorky's works.
