The Immortal Regiment took place in Geneva

07.05.2018

The march of the Immortal Regiment took place in Geneva for the first time, RIA News reports. Over a thousand people gathered on May 5 to pay their respect to their grandfathers and great-grandfathers. They marched along the bank of the Geneva Lake in front of the UN building singing wartime songs. They were carrying the portraits of the ancestors who had perished in the war.

The activity had been approved by the authorities of Geneva and supported by the Russian mission in Geneva's subdivision of the UN.

According to the representative of Russia Gennady Gatilov, the fact that the Immortal Regiment is organized all over the world proves that people still remember their grandfathers who had given their lives for peace in the world. It is also good to know that the Swiss people are also interested in the activity and the local authorities help organizing the Immortal Regiment marches.

Another Immortal Regiment march is to take place on May 9 in the Walk of Fame and Hornli Cemetery in Basel. On the Victory Day, a wreath-laying ceremony takes place on the collective grave of the Soviet soldiers with participation of ambassadors of CIS countries. Like it was last year anyone who wants to participate in the ceremony can get there from Geneva, Bern, Zurich by free buses provided by the RF embassy, the RF mission in Geneva's subdivision of the UN and Rossotrudnichestvo.
