''Immortal Regiment'' marched in Paris

The Immortal Regiment campaign was held in Paris. On May 8, Russian compatriots and representatives of local public organizations took to the streets of the French capital, the Russian Eyewitness reports.

The participants took to the streets with portraits of relatives who took part in WWII, as well as Russian, Soviet and French flags. The procession passed from Place de la République to the Pere Lachaise cemetery. The participants held a rally and laid flowers at the monuments to the soldiers of the Resistance and the armies of the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition.

The campaign was led by Georgy Shepelev, head of the Coordinating Council of Compatriots in France, President of the Russia-France: Common Memory Association.

On the eve of Victory Day in France, a memorial ceremony was held at the country's largest burial place of Soviet soldiers in Noyers-Saint-Martin. Russian Ambassador Alexei Meshkov, who spoke about the importance of preserving historical memory for maintaining trust between countries, and other Russian diplomats took part in it. The remains of the Red Army soldiers, transferred from other regions of France, rest in the cemetery.
