Freedom to ban: RT is to vanish from the broadcast network in Washington

30.03.2018

US actions demonstrate discriminatory policies in relation to the mass media sources, according to the comment of Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitri Peskov on banning the RT channel in the US, RIA Novosti informs.

"This is, so to say, a worrying and frightening trend," he said. Peskov has also underlined that further steps contradict freedom and democracy declarations which Russia keeps on hearing from Washington.

Starting April 1, Washington citizens will not watch RT channel as local TV providers excluded the Russian channel from their broadcast net. In accordance with the words of Margarita Simonyan, this happened because RT started to operate in the status of a foreign agent and due to ongoing assaults from the politicians. She also made a joke that such was a democracy in the United States.

As per the Russkiy Mir Foundation, last November RT America was induced to register as a foreign agent. Russian Foreign Ministry has claimed that these measures taken by Washington impede the work of journalists and lead to restrictions for mass media.
