The US administration has expanded the anti-Russian sanctions and has added 18 people to the list, RIA Novosti reports. Almost all of them serve in the GRU — the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russia. The sanctions have also been imposed on those whom Western countries accuse of poisoning Sergey Skripal and his daughter Yulia. Restrictions have also been imposed on several media, including the Federal News Agency, Economy Today, Nevsky News and others.

OFAC (the Department of the US Treasury) have also announced that it is going to lift the sanctions imposed on Russian companies En +, Rusal and Eurosibenergo in 30 days. Oleg Deripaska, who owns Rusal, will still remain on the sanctions list.

Russkiy Mir reported earlier the US President Donald Trump to have signed a law introducing a new package of anti-Russian sanctions, which had been previously adopted by the US Congress. This bill introduced both personal and sectoral sanctions against not only Russian citizens and companies, but also against those of Iran and North Korea.

It bans US financial institutions from credit activities with Russian banks as well as the cooperation of American companies with Russia in the Nord Stream 2 project. The heads of some European states, Germany and Austria in particular, opposed the imposition of new sanctions, but the US authorities did not take it into account.
