Russian President approves target group for protection of rights of Russian citizens abroad

31.10.2017

Russian President Administration Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved of establishment of target group for protection of rights of Russians in other countries. It may start functioning in the Russian Foreign Ministry, RIA Novosti informs. This idea was offered at the session of the Council for Civil Society and Human Rights. Human Rights’ Council member Alexander Brod has made this offer. He has explained that the group may consist of specialized non-commercial organizations, lawyers and rights’ defenders.

"It seems to be a good idea… It may be even more efficient than just administrative efforts of the Russian Foreign Ministry itself," Putin said.

Alexander Brod has reminded that a number of illegal detentions, arrests and deportations of Russians has grown. Besides, Russian diplomats, public figures, rights’ defenders and journalists in discharge of their functions are prosecuted.

Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that USA prosecutes Russians all over the world arresting them in the third countries under vain pretexts disregarding the international law. The brightest examples of the above said are arrests of Viktor Bout and Konstantin Yaroshenko.
