Russian-Finnish Cultural Forum starts in Saint Petersburg

pixabay.comRussian-Finnish Cultural Forum starts today September 21, TASS reports. It will be eighteenth forum already. Two countries take turns to host this forum. This year Saint Petersburg is hosting it.

The Forum is included into the celebration of the hundred’s anniversary of Finland’s independence. Its main theme is Hundred of Cultural Visions.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his Finnish counterpart Juha Sipilya will give speeches at the gala opening ceremony. The prime ministers plan to conduct negotiations to discuss important questions of bilateral cooperation in various areas.

Among forum participants are parliament members of both countries, representatives of educational sphere, cultural activists and members of civil organizations.

Twenty new joint projects come up after the forum every year. Both countries allocate budgets to implement them. Moscow and Helsinki intend to input 50 thousand US dollars each for their implementation in 2017.

The forum is called for increasing culture in bilateral relations, supporting development of regions in both countries. Besides, it facilitates implementation of mutual projects and serves as a link for cultural activists and people of art.

At this, humanitarian ties between countries continue developing. National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Russia named after Osipov will perform in Finland this autumn. Exhibition Russia and Finland: Revolution Visions, Visions of Independence, Visions of War and Peace. 1917 – 1920 is prepared. Historical documents provided by Russian archives and the national archive of Finland will be exhibited there.
