Russian Academy of Arts celebrates 260th anniversary

rah.ruRussian Academy of Arts celebrated its 260th anniversary on September 20. Many activities were prepared for the celebration, such as exhibitions, conferences, and series of lectures. They will be devoted to Academy of Arts’ deeds for development of national and world cultures.

As per Russian Minster of Culture Vladimir Medinsky, Russian Academy of Arts puts a firm basis for development of Russian arts, so its jubilee is celebrated by the academy members as well as by the whole artistic society of our country.

Modern Academy’s roots go deep down the history. It is a heir to the Imperial Academy of Arts which laid the foundations for the great achievements of Russian art in the 18th-20th centuries.

Until the last century, the Academy remained the only higher educational institution in Russia providing degrees in arts. It goes far beyond the educational institution only. It plays a major part in enlightenment, development and enhancement of many kinds of arts. Academy gathered museum collections, organized and conducted exhibitions and scientific researches.

Besides, the Academy gained its popularity through its graduates known as genius artists. Among its students are Karl Brullov, Vasily Surikov, Ilya Repin and many others.

Its workshops are opened in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kazan, Krasnoyarsk today. The main purpose of the Academy is education of young artists and preservation of classical traditions of Russian art school.
