The medal in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War was handed over to the veteran of the Soviet air force Grigory Timofeevich Fain, who currently lives in Los Angeles.

Fain served as a shooter of the ANT-40 (SB-2) bomber from the first days of the Nazi attack on the USSR. He was in the same regiment as the war hero and famous pilot Alexander Pokryshkin, TASS reports.

In addition, Grigory Fain became an honored guest at a gala evening held at the Palm Springs Aviation Museum in California. The songs of the war years were played during the evening.

Grigory Fain served in the army for more than twenty years. After entering the reserve, he became a Ph.D., a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Despite his age, the veteran takes part in various events related to the Great Patriotic War, and shares his memories of the war years.

Speaking at the ceremony, Counselor-Envoy of the Russian Embassy in the United States Sergei Trepelkov recalled the allied relations that connected the Soviet Union and foreign countries during the Second World War. He noted the assistance provided by the Red Army to British and French pilots, as well as the Americans who supplied aircraft as part of the Lend-Lease program.
