Kinoshock Film Festival Opens in Anapa

A film festival highlighting the latest works from the CIS, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia has opened in Anapa, ITAR-TASS reports. This is the 23rd time the festival has been held in the Black Sea resort city. The competition program includes four blocks: full-length feature films, shorts, made-for-television films and almanac films. The festival has moved from the outskirts of Anapa to the center of the city and runs until September 30. 

The feature film competition includes 14 films from Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Estonia, Armenia. Lithuania, Azerbaijan and Belarus. Russia is represented by Alexander Kott’s film Test, which won the the Grand Prix and the prize for best cinematography and the Kinotavr festival earlier this year, and Arseny Gonchukov’s Son.

The Kinoshock Open Film Festival has been held since 1992. The aim of the festival is to identify and support talented filmmakers of CIS countries, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, their cooperation, as well as promotion of national cinematic art. The festival gives the filmmakers from different countries a unique opportunity for creative dialogue, increases international interest in national cultures and different film schools, opens new names in modern cinema and presents new works by the masters of cinema. The president of the festival is the writer and director Viktor Merezhko.
