Russian Center in Plovdiv Joins First in Space Campaign

The Center of Russian Language and Culture at Plovdiv University, created in partnership with the Russkiy Mir Foundation, is joining the international First in Space campaign.

A number of creative and sports event for students have been planned in honor of the first manned spaceflight. They include:

  • National essay contest on the topic “Cosmos – the territory of the future” for high school and college students
  • National children’s drawing contest “First in Space” together with the Russian Center in Varna
  • Multimedia presentation contest “Man in Space”
  • Organization of the sports Olympiad “Become a Star” for elementary school students
  • Organization of meetings with Bulgarian cosmonauts Georgy Ivanov and Alexander Alexandrov
  • Roundtable: Russian Science and Bulgarian Technologies in space Exploration
  • Lecture series: Space Exploration – yesterday, today and tomorrow
  • First in Space Photography Exhibition

A wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Yuri Gagarin monument in Plovdiv, which was built 45 years ago in 1966 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the first manned spaceflight.

Italian entrepreneur Marco Maggi's book, "Russian to the Bone," is now accessible for purchase in Italy and is scheduled for release in Russia in the upcoming months. In the book, Marco recounts his personal odyssey, narrating each stage of his life as a foreigner in Russia—starting from the initial fascination to the process of cultural assimilation, venturing into business, fostering authentic friendships, and ultimately, reaching a deep sense of identifying as a Russian at his very core.
