Russian Center in Amman Joins First in Space Campaign

11.02.2011

The Russian Center which recently opened in Amman at the University of Jordan has joined the First in Space campaign. Starting in February 20, the center will begin its month-long documentary film program. The films will focus on the first manned flight into outer space, Yuri Gagarin and the achievements of the Russian space program. The films will help students become better acquainted with the fate of Gagarin, how he trained for his flight and how all of mankind welcomed him as a hero.

The week of March 22 the Russian Center will hold a contest on the theme “What do we know about the first manned spaceflight”, which will help students even better engrain what they learn from the film series.

In April the center will put on a photography exhibition and children’s drawing competition on the theme of space exploration.

The campaign will draw to a close with an event on the theme “I dedicate my work to the cosmos”. On April 12 students will read their verse in Arabic, English and Russian and sing songs dedicated to cosmonautics and space exploration.
