Evgeny Onegin Named Most Popular Piece of Literature in School Program

Most Russians enjoyed studying literature in school and the most widely read work is Alexander Pushkin’s novel in verse Evgeny Onegin. According to a survey by the Public Opinion Foundation, 83% of Russians read this work.

According to the survey results, other works in the top ten list included Gogol’s Dead Souls, Tolstoy’s War and Peace, Griboedov’s Woe from Wit, Nekrasov’s Who Is Happy in Russia?, Turgenev’s Fathers and Sons, Lermontov’s A Hero of Our Time, Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment, Ostrovsky’s The Storm and Gorky’s The Lower Depths.
