Kurchatov Institute Turns 70 Years Old

17.04.2013

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to employees of the National Research Centre Kurchatov Institute on the 70th anniversary of its founding, the Kremlin press service reports.

The telegram reads, in part, that the institute's history “is inextricably linked with the outstanding achievements of domestic science, as well as the names of brilliant scientists, engineers and designers, of which the country is rightly proud. Their breakthrough discoveries have allowed us to construct a reliable ‘nuclear shield’, to ensure our country’s leading position in the development of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, and to establish a solid foundation for developing our domestic industry in strategic directions.”

Vladimir Putin also noted that today “the Kurchatov Institute is a flagship for advances in knowledge, a pioneer in the creation of new technologies, and participates actively and productively in major international and interdisciplinary projects.”
