Russian President Orders Government to Support the Russian Language

Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a number of assignments to the Russian Cabinet following the February 19 meeting of the Council on International Relations. In part, the Cabinet has been charged with updating by September 1 the federal target program Russian Language for 2011-2015 to include additional measures for the support of the study of the Russian language as a native language, the Kremlin press service reports.

By December 1, the Russian government must formulate its state commissions for 2014-2016 for the translation of works of Russian literature into the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation and prior to September 1 develop a set of measures aimed at raising media coverage of the activities of state bodies and institutions of civil society aimed at strengthening civil unity and harmonization of inter-ethnic relations in the country.
